The stories

These stories were written particularly for children and younger people, though grown ups are invited to enjoy them too. From a love of Greek and Norse mythology Ruth Albert the teacher told wondrous stories.

Some of Ruth’s own tales, told here, contain large elements of magic. There are also adventures in history, international intrigue, exciting Greek myths… and more. They appear here in the order in which they were probably written, from the simplest to the more involved.

The poems

The catalyst for this project was an enthusiasm for Ruth’s poems on the part of some young readers who became involved in setting up this website. The work speaks for itself, except perhaps for some brief comments on the illustrations.

Many of the poems are illustrated with the flowing, interpretive line drawings of Ruth’s friend and artistic collaborator Jean Powrie.

The mystical zodiacal paintings of Johfra, accompanied by Ruth’s own poems, are also reproduced here.
